Dr Georgina Cameron is a Specialist Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist. She graduated with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2005 and completed her specialist gastroenterology training at Geelong Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. Prior to medicine she studied the violin, completing a Bachelor of Music with Honours at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium.
She undertook a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, in 2012/13, gaining experience performing complex colonic polypectomy, double balloon enteroscopy, and with particular focus on endoscopic management of Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. She has presented research in this area at both national and international gastroenterology conferences in Europe and the United States, and published this work in international gastroenterology journals and this work formed part of her PhD thesis. She obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne in 2017, on the topic of endoscopic management of Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer.
Georgina is interested in all areas of Gastroenterology including management of iron deficiency anaemia, gastrointestinal bleeding, reflux and Barrett’s oesophagus, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology and functional bowel disorders. She has an appointment in the Department of Gastroenterology at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She is available for consultation in Surrey Hills and via Telehealth. She performs endoscopy at Epworth Eastern Hospital, St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospitals and South Gippsland Hospital. Endoscopic procedures include routine and therapeutic gastroscopy/colonoscopy (including open access), capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy, and oesophageal endoscopic mucosal resection and HALO radiofrequency ablation for Barrett’s dysplasia and cancer management.
Georgina is dedicated to providing timely, personalised care to all patients with focus on communication and involving patients in their management decisions. All patients can be seen urgently by Georgina and she is happy to discuss any issues with referring practitioners over the phone.
